Below is a list of frequently asked questions we get about the AD 2000™. Chances are one or more of your questions could be answered here.
Am I going to save any money with this?
Most customers can reduce their fuel consumption by 10-20%. Savings can vary depending on pre-existing control type and temperature profile. We have measured reduced heater run-time on our Domestic Hot Water versions in excess of 35%. The AD 2000™ is preprogrammed with default settings which assure comfortable temperatures are maintained.
Tell me about the warranty.
The AD 2000™ comes with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase.
How long have you guys been in business?
We've been in business since 1987. Circom, the company who manufactures the AD 2000 has been around since 1968.
How much does it cost?
It depends on several factors including the number of sensors installed, physical size and construction of the building. Give us a call and we'd be happy to give you an estimate.
I've got (fill in the blank) buildings, how much will it cost then?
Yes, we'll probably give you a better price if you decide to purchase multiple systems.
Will I save money if I install it myself?
Yes, you can save some money if you install the AD 2000 yourself. We have a money saving plan where you (or your staff) runs the apartment sensor wires and we will wire the panel into the boiler.
My tenants are "Stove Burners" how will this effect it?
Tenants who heat their apartment using the oven are known as "stove burners". Others may use an external space heater. This could send a false overheating signal to the control. The AD 2000 has an adjustable hi-exclude setting which will temporarily remove this offensive sensor from the heat calculation.
Do I need to adjust for daylight savings time and leap years?
No. If you live in a part of the country which is effected by daylight savings time changes - simply turn the Daylight Savings Time screen to ON. This will automatically shift the time backwards and forwards as required. The AD 2000 will automatically adjust for leap years.
What software do I need to communicate with my AD 2000™?
If you are a Microsoft Windows user, you may use a utility called HyperTerminal. HyperTerminal is included free with each version of Microsoft Windows.
Can I use my Mac to communicate with the AD 2000™?
Yes... We've used a program called Z-Term, but that was a long time ago. No doubt other suitable programs exist as well.
I'm locked out of the programming sections.
Press the SELECT key until the Display Temperatures LED is lit. You should see the words - all settings locked - on the display. Press the Decrease and Increase buttons AT THE SAME TIME. This will unlock the programming sections. Repeat the process described above to lock the settings again to prevent unauthorized tampering.
Will I lose all my settings if there is a power failure?
No. The AD 2000™ incorporates a 10 year lithium battery which retains all program settings in the event of a power failure. Note: This battery does not operate the boiler during a power failure, it merely retains AD 2000 program settings. Chances are, you will have no heat during a power failure because the boiler contains parts which are powered by electricity.
The green heat call light is on, but my boiler isn't.
The green heat call light indicates the AD 2000 has determined a need for heat. When the green light is on, the AD 2000 output relay(s) are closed. It is possible your boiler is off due to another switch in the circuit, such as pressure or hi-limit.
What's this Quick-Set screen and how do I use it?
The Quick-Set screen allows the user to globally adjust all temperature settings up or down in .5 degree increments. This feature can be used as a fine-tuning method or as a way to quickly change temperature settings. The time clock in the AD 2000™ has 336 possible entries. It is programmable every 30 minutes with a different setting.
The display reads "System Off", what does this mean?
The AD 2000™ has been shifted to the OFF mode. While in the off mode, all relays will be in the open position. The display will read - System Off -. Use the off mode when your heating equipment is being serviced.
The display keeps changing, how can I make it stop?
After 5 minutes of inactivity by the operator, the AD 2000 will begin to automatically rotate its display between different screens. This is normal and should be no cause for alarm. To make the rotation stop, simply press any key on the AD 2000 front panel.
The display reads "System Bypassed", what does this mean?
The AD 2000™ has been shifted to the BYPASS mode. While in the bypass mode, all relays will be in the closed position. The display will read - System Bypassed -. Use the bypass mode when your heating equipment is being serviced.
I want to add more sensors, can I?
You can add up to 16 sensors to the AD 2000™. Additional sensors can be added at any time.
Do I need a dedicated phone line to use remote communication?
No. If there is an existing phone line near the control it is possible to connect a phone/fax switch. This switch will determine if the incoming call is of the voice or data type and route the call accordingly.
